Family Support Program



This program provides educational and support services for newcomer, immigrant, and low-income families. This program increases community connections and encourages women who are isolated to learn to draw strength from one another and learn via professional organizations with regard to health issues, parenting, stress management, nutrition, and other significant counseling workshops.
Workshops & Sessions include:
1. Nutrition Workshops
This workshop is organized based on nutrition standards and offers a variety of healthy food suggestions that are suitable to the unique cultural needs of each family. We help mothers and caregivers plan meals that rich in vitamins and nutrients, including: milk and milk products, fruit and vegetables, meats and alternatives and grain products. Facilitators are trained in safe food handling, food safety and nutrition.
2. Parenting Workshops
A family centered workshop that equips parents to prevent and manage damaging behaviors in their teens, especially boys aged 12 – 19, by building on the strengths and interconnectedness of the women’s own families.
3. Health & Stress Management Workshops
These workshops focus on improving women’s abilities to cope with difficult and varying circumstances, which lead to improved wellbeing. Topics include, effects of stress on the body, self – esteem, how to take care of your body, healthy ways of getting rid of stress, ways to relax, understanding your moods and feelings, depression and anxiety.
4. Violence Against Women Sessions
The Violence against Women sessions will increase awareness about common experiences women face and resources available to women who are in abusive situations. Topics will include various forms of violence, identifying signs of violence, culture sensitive issues, stereotypes, and assisting participants in developing safety plans.
5. Family Healing Workshops
These workshops aim to improve family’s healing from trauma, personal and community violence and are anchored in a combination of pre – existing community - based relationships. It creates a space for parents, caregivers, and families to come together and support each other and share their experiences from gun violence and incarceration in the community. These workshops will host healing circles helping families in the community to respond to traumatic events such as shooting, deaths, police rains and incarceration. Information sessions on community resources and workshops on conflict resolution are provided.
6. Mental Health & Self-Care Workshops
These workshops aim to increase overall community mental health awareness and capacity within the community and minimize the mental health stigma for vulnerable families. Self-care workshops improve mental health and build community capacity for vulnerable families.
SWCSN Services



1. Senior Services
SWCSN provides important services to help seniors within the community Senior Services include:
Escorts to: Immigration Office, Passport Office, Doctor’s Appointments, Pharmacy, General Welfare Office, ODSP and OPP
Filling Applications for: Citizenship, Landing, and Social Housing Applications
2. Referrals and Interpretations Services
SWCSN provides support services to the community to help connect with other services available. We offer interpretation services if required, in order that the individual can receive the proper support and resources they are seeking.
3. Childcare Services
SWCSN offers on-site child-minding services for participants while they are participating in the different programs offered by our network. Children’s activities include arts and crafts, free playtime and, circle time with songs and stories
